Brand-Name drugs are protected by patents, the manufacturer being the only source for this product. Many countries are producing generic alternatives these containing the same active ingredients as their branded counterparts, while costing considerably less. The generic product is able to be manufactured at a fraction of the cost, as there is little or no cost associated with research and development.
